There are various ways in which to engage with CIRTL@UBC as a graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, or faculty member. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows can work towards becoming a CIRTL Associate, Practitioner, and Scholar:
- CIRTL Associate
- Recognize the role of the CIRTL pillars in effective teaching and learning. At UBC, we offer several pathways to become a CIRTL Associate through participating in Foundations of Pedagogy and Instructional Skills Workshop.
- CIRTL Practitioner
- Scholarly teaching that builds on the CIRTL pillars to demonstrably improve learning. At UBC, we coordinate Teaching as Research (TAR) internships. We also offer the Teaching Practicum in that spans the Fall & Winter terms and the CIRTL SoTL Workshop in the Spring term. Successful participants of the Certificate Program in Advanced Teaching and Learning also become CIRTL Practitioners.
- CIRTL Scholar
- Scholarship that advances teaching and learning under peer review. At UBC, TAR Interns present and/or publish their TAR findings to all-university, regional, national or international conferences. Successful participants of the Certificate Program in Advanced Teaching and Learning who present their SoTL project outside of CATL can also become CIRTL Scholars.
Faculty can engage as mentors/partners for CIRTL Associates undertaking TAR projects.
