Welcome to CIRTL@UBC
CIRTL@UBC is the UBC node of the Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL), a network of research-intensive universities interested in improving undergraduate teaching through graduate student and postdoc training. The mission of CIRTL is to enhance the training and support available to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who teach undergraduate classes.
At CIRTL@UBC we focus in particular on guiding students to bring their whole selves to their teaching practice, and draw upon their lived experience to inform an empathetic approach and to infuse inclusivity and acceptance into their pedagogical process. We realise this focus through our programming, and by forming collaborative communities within the CIRTL cohorts that provide a basis for exchange of views, questioning of norms, and exploration of new ideas.
CIRTL @ UBC provides certification at three levels:
Associate
CIRTL associates have taken their first steps in engaging with evidence based teaching and engaging with teaching as research (TAR) by attending workshops or other teaching development.
Practitioner
CIRTL Practitioners have initiated and engaged in at least one TAR or Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project, and have connected with a teaching practitioner community
Scholar
CIRTL scholars have begun contributing to the scholarly community through TAR publications or public presentations of their TAR/SoTL research.
